Mary-Ann Stephenson is a freelance consultant specialising in gender, participation in decision making and human rights. She has worked in over twenty countries world wide with women politicians, business leaders, civil society activists, youth activists and journalists. Her expertise lies in areas such women in political and public life, gender issues at the international level, women in the work place, women’s poverty and financial security and working with women’s local and regional groups.
Mary-Ann is a former Commissioner of the WNC and former Director of the Fawcett Society. She has experience of strategic leadership at Board and Director level including as a member of the International Board of the human rights organisation Article 19.
Mary-Ann has played an active role in the planning process of several organisations as Director, Management Committee member or consultant. She has also worked with women’s organisations and networks internationally to develop their strategic plans and to develop the leadership skills of their senior staff and activists. Since her previous term as WNC Commissioner ended four years ago, Mary-Ann has gained further experience of women’s organisations in the UK at a local and national level, and has gained a greater understanding of the role of UN and other international mechanisms.
