In recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, on 9th September the EU held an event entitled: Ensuring Women's Participation in Peace and Security in Brussels.
This event was jointly hosted by the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Baroness Catherine Ashton, and by the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Steven Vanackere. Among the speakers were Rachel Mayanja, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and Margot Wallstrom, Special Representative to the UN Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Armed Conflict.
