A Bitter Pill to Swallow: report from WNC focus groups PDF Print E-mail

A Bitter Pill to Swallow, the report from a series of WNC focus groups to inform the Department of Health (DH) Taskforce on the health aspects of violence against women and girls, has been published. In September 2009 the DH Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Taskforce commissioned the WNC to organise and facilitate 14 women’s focus groups with survivors of violence who have recently used health services (including primary care services, emergency and hospital based services, sexual health services, dentists and opticians). The DH asked the WNC to target women who have experienced domestic violence, sexual violence and forced marriage and BME women, refugee women, older women, disabled women and women who have recently used statutory mental health services. Between September - November 2009 the WNC spoke to 211 women across England, gathering a huge amount of information about women’s experiences of using health services and their recommendations for improving the response of health services to violence against women and girls.
